Budget-Friendly Columbus Day Weekend in the Catskills

Sooo, summer's over, we're back at work, and I don't think I'm the only one wondering when the next vacation is.

Luckily, Columbus Day isn't far off, and if last year is any indication, it should also be peak foliage time in the Catskills. I did some snooping and found a handful of unique, beautiful, and budget-friendly properties still available for rent in the 'skills Columbus Day weekend:

East Meredith Cabin Retreat

Kick in Thoreau-style in this rustic (read: no water or electricity), one room cabin set on 70 acres. The owner reports incredible night skies, and beautiful foliage. Pet friendly too, for your snuggling needs. Sleeps two plus pups for $60/a night.

Public Transit-Accessible Loft

This charming and private studio is located above an old apothecary shop in Pine Hill, NY, and is walking distance from the Trailways Bus, which is pretty amazing. (A car is pretty necessary once you're up there, however, unless you're a super-cyclist of some kind.) Sleeps two for $85/a night.

Camp Cabin on the Esopus

All I can think of when I see this place is Dirty Dancing. And I was obsessed with Patrick Swayze when I was in kindertgarten (?). I was pretty strange. Anyway! Cute, rustic but with decent amenities and a nearby swimming hole. Pet-friendly, and a 15-minute walk from the Trailways bus. Sleeps 2 for $75/a night.

Mossy Stone Farm

I hate to choose favorites (that's a lie, I love it) but this one looks so damn perfect. Two very pretty rooms on 17 even prettier acres, with hiking, streams, and yes, mossy rocks. Rooms accommodate two and are $79/a night.

Camping...now, with sheep!

It's BYO everything for this campsite on a working sheep farm, but who cares, because LAMBS. You can help with chores, learn about the lambikins or just do your own thing for $35/a night.

So there you have it, kittens. Book soon before these beauties are snapped up!
